When Jesse, an easily distracted nine-year-old, is diagnosed with ADHD, his mother seeks answers from a slew of specialists—allergists, psychologists, psychiatrists, homeopaths—as well as neighbors, family, and friends. This controversial comedy (bombarded by video and sound) asks whether genetics, living in a world of sensory overload, vaccinations, diet, and the environment, cause or contribute to ADD and ADHD. Are kids too readily diagnosed and overly medicated? And is it OK to laugh when discussing one of society’s greatest present-day barriers? |

Featuring a soundscape of "trip-hop" music, 1001 hyperlinks tales from “One Thousand and One Nights” to contemporary America bouncing from Persia to the U.S. to Gaza and beyond. Juxtaposing the contemporary story of Dahna and Alan—an Arab woman and a Jewish man—against Scheherazade's stories, this old world tale of Arabian markets and palaces is interwoven with modern politics of romance and culture, electronic courtship, and emotional deception. |

Set against a backdrop of fast horses, gritty racetracks, and high stakes betting, Pure Confidence is an extraordinary tale of one of the most successful athletes of his day—Simon Cato, a slave. In a rare historical drama for Mixed Blood, Pure Confidence is a funny and daring look at the complexity of race, love, and dignity. |
Mar 13 - 22, 2009 |
Mixed Blood’s eleventh bilingual production is a run-amok comedy about a quinceañera, the definitive event in the life of a young Chicana when families celebrate their daughters’ arrival into womanhood. Eddy Valderama wants to throw the ultimate "Quince" for his daughter Sonora…only he's ten years late. Three generations of women respond to his generosity and tardiness in this hysterical play, replete with all the trappings and traditions of a quinceañera and written by one of TV and stage's top Latino comedians. |
