Mixed Blood Reflections

When I come to Mixed Blood, I feel the presence of my ancestors. My father was born in this neighborhood and grew up just blocks away at 7th St and 15th Avenue. His parents owned a grocery store at 1600 S 6th Street. In the attached picture, they are in front of the store with my great grandparents – Haskell and Devorah Zuckman, grandparents – Louis and Anna Zuckman. My dad – Maury – is the eldest, pictured here with his sister – Millie and brother – Sigmund.
All of Haskell and Devorah’s 7 children lived in this neighborhood in the early years of the 20th century, many within shouting distance of each other.
