From the Fringe Fest
Thanks to Dan Bernitt for sharing his experience in the Fringe Fest here at Mixed Blood Theatre.
“I got involved with the Fringe back in 2006, when I brought my solo show ‘Thanks for the Scabies, Jerkface!’ here. Minnesota Fringe is one of my favorite festivals — the people are so warm and giving, the staff are a helluva lot of fun, and, um, I crave Summit EPA during the year. Mixed Blood is one of the larger venues I’ve performed in; I’m used to more intimate spaces, but there’s a strange intimacy in this 200-seat space. The shows have been going really well. I’ve been pleased each night with the audiences, the conversations afterwards, the e-mails I sometimes come home to. I’m most pleased with how audiences are responding to ‘Phi Alpha Gamma’ – I brought a workshop version to Fringe last year and kept with it because of the response. Seeing people come to the show is so exciting for me, especially people who saw it last year and are coming back again. It’s the favorite play I’ve written, and I’m happily surprised that it’s still fresh each night.”
Come see Dan at the Fringe Festival! He is performing in Phi Alpha Gamma and The Gayer Show here at Mixed Blood Theatre until August 9th.
