Free Speech

Here at Mixed Blood, we understand that theatre is not created in a vacuum; it is presented to the world and, when done right, inspires hours of conversation. It is our hope that you will want to talk about this show.

This year, we are providing more ways for our global community to discuss, engage, challenge, question and enjoy the work we produce on our stage.

At the theater:

Free For(u)m
After every performance of the mainstage shows, audience members are invited to participate in an open discussion about the show they just witnessed. These conversations are a safe space for audience members to freely and candidly discuss their feelings and connections to the work. Producer in Residence Jamil Jude will be present to provide context and help move things along, but the focus of each discussion will be led by you, the audience.

Salons
After select Sunday matinee performances, panels of scholars will lead discussions on a variety of show-related themes and topics. The Salon schedule for Crashing the Party:

  • Sunday, February 12, following 3 pm performance – "Old-Fashioned New Plays"
  • Sunday, February 19, following 3 pm performance – "The American Dream: A Dream Deferred?"
  • Sunday, February 26, following 3 pm performance – "Theatre and Politics: A Healthy Marriage?"
  • Monday, February 27, following 7:30 pm performance – "Crashing the National Scene"
  • Sunday, March 4, following 3 pm performance - "Musings from Joe Minjares"
